We know our ancestors so far back and we know where they're from. So we continue research of those places and surnames and look through sources we find that may pertain to the surnames and places we are interested in.
When I'm stuck with an ancestor because I can't find, say, an immigration record, I don't isolate myself and look specifically for that one person to find the ship and voyage they came on. I generalize and search through possible records that may lead to it and to info about all my other lines at the same time.
Then if I do come across with their record, I don't just take down those specifics. I look on the same ship for extra clues, specifically other people that came from the same place or people listed nearby them whose names are familiar who might be relatives or friend and may lead to provide information.
These are the practises of people who do one-name studies or one-place studies. They deal with large amounts of data and need to be efficient about how they do so.
Source-based research is more efficient than people-based research and leads to way more eurekas.

-------------
The further back we go in our research the fewer documents we are likely to find that specifically name individuals and their relationships or events. This does not mean that what we find does not have any useful information. We as researchers need to understand that the information we need may not be contained within a single document. Extracting details and moving on to the next document is not the way to go as taking things in context will build a much stronger case and reveal any weakness. Evidentia allows us to start the process of building our case and explaining our reasons for choosing to follow a particular route.
My research, which is now part of my one name study, involves 2 individuals called Peregrine Rosling born in the same village the same year both married to an Eliza/Elizabeth which person is part of the direct line family and who did he marry, who are his children? No direct answer here, census, parish register images and marriage transcriptions online have helped but not one of these alone can define what happened to each individual.
Common names in an area mean that our analysis is vital to the process. Recording such analysis is sadly what is lacking in the mainstream software and online. Adding comments as an afterthought, with no specific place assigned, means that whilst a researcher may have carried out the analysis nothing but bare facts get recorded or the analysis gets overlooked.
We need to have software that forces us to record our analysis first and conclusion last.quote Hilary

- hur man tar provet
* jämför släktträd och geografi med dina matchningar
* försök hitta var era släkter går ihop och vart ert gemensamma DNA kommer ifrån
* gå med i ett projekt som finns hos FTDNA för dina YDNA och mtDNA-haplogrupper
* gå med i Facebookgruppen "DNA-anor"
* gå med i de diskussionsgrupper som finns på Facebook där man diskuterar din haplogrupp
* delta i diskussionerna eller bara lyssna och inhämta kunskap
.....
Vad saknas
Magnus Bäckmarks tidigare bok i ämnet |

Using Personal Categories in Wikitree
One challenge with genealogy is to get some structure of your work.
I have started to use wikitree for my research which is a free family tree with one tree. In this tool you get a lot of profiles and as always its easy that you dont "find back" when you should do some specific research like Military research or you are at a place were you have access to a specific database. By using categories I can mark the wikitree profiles that this profile should be followed up when I do military research etc...
See video
I use on all profiles I work with that have a person who has visit prison
Category:Sälgö-1_To_Do_List_PrisonRecords
I use on all profiles I work with that have a person who has been a soldier
Category:Sälgö-1_To_Do_List_MilitaryRecords
==> When I next week will visit the war archive in Stockholm, Sweden it will be easy to find all profiles that are interested to do more research on in this archive
See video above

Wikitree sections
Use a Timeline - swedish Tidslinje
Makes it easier to follow the life of the person and also to add the references to the correct event
From profile West_Euren-1
to "reuse" a source use the name tag ==>
<ref name="v4419.b22.s15">Järn AI:14 (1861-1865) Image 22 / page 15 (AID: v4419.b22.s15, NAD: SE/GLA/13264)</ref>
to "reuse" the source then
<ref name="v4419.b22.s15"/>
Use a Research Notes section
Intention is to tell what has been done and what are still open issuesTo Do section
Explain whats next to do
Personal Categories
Used to mark profiles where more work is needed or they are part of DNA research or is a Free space
- Add [[Category:Sälgö-1]] to your profile
where Sälgö-1 is my Wikitree ID
See http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:S%C3%A4lg%C3%B6-1 - Add subcategories for e.g.
- To Do [[Category:Sälgö-1_ToDo]]
- DNA research [[Category:Sälgö-1_DNA]]
- Free space profiles [[Category:Sälgö-1_space_started]]
- Then add subcategories for TODO e.g.
- To Do Check Military Records [[Category:Sälgö-1_To_Do_List_Check_MilitaryRecords]]

Different trees
The new cool dnagen.net tool to display ICW In common with and cluster them if they have more ICW also gives a good way to better understand different trees..
I created a post on FB to ask other people to display what they have see link
------------------
Recording to another tool dnaged.net 120 of those people has a family tree uploaded
If I select "show matches without ICW"
* and have selected Show matches > medium cM ==> 48% are matches without
44% with uploaded family tree
10% with no ICW
If I check the circles and have selected Show all matches > medum cM ==> 10% are matches without ICW
Show > Median cM ==> ICW with no other ICW 30%
